There are hundreds of thousands of influencers in the social ether, but only a handful who we religiously stalk in order to virtually steal the clothes off their backs. Our primary target is Monikh—the London-based styling and shopping guru who seeks out the very coolest buys from every corner of the retail world. From her inspiring tips on re-wearing her well-chosen investment items to hunting down the coolest high-street pieces, her Instagram feed @monikh and website are a veritable hotbed of things you’re going to want to purchase immediately (and will never regret). Each week, Monikh will share her new picks exclusively for you…
That feeling when someone asks you, “Oh, where’s that from?!” or “I don’t know that brand…” or “I didn’t know they were making that style this season.” It’s the feeling of being in the fashion know. You too can be one with the credentials and intel that would make Carrie Bradshaw green with satin slip skirt–and–mule combo envy. That’s why I’m here—to give you three must-see pieces. I’m choosing only the best of the best and selecting key items that contribute toward you building the wardrobe of dreams. I’ll be here the same time every week adding to a collection that will elevate you to “Oh, this? It’s old” in no time.
This time of year is always a time of extremes when it comes to dressing—at one end we wear velvet, sequins and everything extra, but then also reach for comfy loungewear and basics ready to hibernate in over winter. This week I’m party-ready in a berry red satin maxi by Deitas, but then have been buying basic sweatshirts from Zara.
Here are the new-in winter items I’ve been waiting for and finally managed to get my hands on. Keep scrolling to see…
This beauty is my winter version of an easy throw-on slip dress. This is perfect for a winter wedding or a Christmas or NYE party (actually, you should wear this to all three).
There’s a new It bag in town
This might be insanely basic, but what else are you going to wear under your new show-stopping coat? I’ve stocked up on basic sweatshirts to keep me going this winter.
A hybrid jumper/dress/jacket wonder that will give you styling moves you never thought were possible.
If you buy one statement winter dress this season, make it this one. Yes, it’s simple, but that’s where the beauty lies. This dress will come out every winter, styled casually with big boots or for a big event with strappy heels and a glittery bag.
I love blue shoes; there’s something that feels fresh about the hue. Paired with a simple white T-shirt and pair of leather trousers, this is the perfect “I made no effort, but look fab” look for Friday night drinks.
Every now and then, a designer and high-street brand get together to create a hybrid of aspirational but attainable garments, and this season, I’m loving JW Anderson’s designs for Uniqlo. Throw on this fleece with everything.
Before a gym class, I stumbled into Ghost to waste some time and fell for this ’70s beauty. Wear with white go-go boots (my latest go-to) and a big shearling coat for extra drama.
Yes, Aperol dressing is still a thing even beyond summer. I’ll be teaming this bright knit with a pair of straight-leg jeans and boots.
Need a showstopper? Look no further. This laminated, shiny, metallic baby is a real wow dress. Wear with simple strappy sandals and that tiger bag for the complete Carrie Bradshaw look.
Recently, I’ve been obsessed (again) with all things animal print—especially print-clashing it. Grab this tiger bag and team it with snake-print boots for the dream mix.
Currently, I’m away on a trip with the babes from Faithfull the Brand, so it was fitting to show off one of the brand’s stunning pieces this week. Commonly known for its summer pieces, this brand is a hidden gem for the winter. Team this beauty with white knee-high boots from Zara and a chunky knit.
A couple of years ago, I invested and in an incredible tartan jacket that I haven’t stopped wearing. This is the new-season one. Don’t miss out.
A dress to wear day to night. This LBD has a 2019 injection via the chic midi length and fluted sleeves. Team with strappy By Far sandals or the below boots.
The easiest way to sass up an outfit? Insert these dream boots. Wear with jeans and a tee for that easy dressy attire.
I remember my mum strutting around in a floor-length leather jacket when I was little, with her short Halle-style haircut and mini sunglasses. She was the coolest lady around! And I’ve forever been trying to re-create her looks. I always invest in a good coat each season, and at the start of autumn, it was the classic beige mac. I’ve since fallen back in love with the style and now have a leather version on my list. Bring on all the Matrix puns.
A suede dress that oozes style, sass and overflowing vibes of importance. The women who wears this is confident and knows she can style anything.
This is by a designer I have just come across and now am obsessed with. This bag gives your outfit an instant winter makeover.
I love that casual workout look even when you’re not working out, and these give you exactly that! The cult brand Veja has teamed up with Rick Owens for the coolest trainers to be seen in this season.
French brand The Frankie Shop has been everywhere this fashion month, and luckily, being stocked on Net-a-Porter means we can also grab a slice of the pie. They now bring out this Linda jumpsuit every season and its time for a grey checked colourway.
This JW Anderson dress had my heart from the very first Insta story back during February’s autumn show. A cosy style but still so sassy, I will wear it with boots on Christmas Day and heels for NYE.
Big sleeves are in this season, and Arket has made the trend just right for this time of year with this amazing leather dress. Wear with black tights (when you’re ready) and knee-high boots.
We love to throw everything we possibly can into our bags, especially when it’s raining en route to work but you have to go out in the evening and you know that it’s actually going to be sunny later. You might even pack a change of outfit or two in there. This tote will keep you looking chic while lugging your wardrobe/general life around.
At the beginning of the year, puffer jackets really started to become a bona fide fashion thing. With the new season upon us designers are now introducing a new flock of padded designs—the trend is still going very strong. Style with all your usuals, it can look with your sleek workwear and cool worn casually with jeans and a tee. And yes, it will feel like you’re still in your duvet. What a dream.
Now this is the ’70s. The print, the colour, the sleeves… Wear with a thin roll-neck by day and just a neck scarf by night.
Autumn jackets are hard to find and on a night out you want something that complements your look, not one that covers it up. So take a peek at Violet—she’s cropped to the most flattering length to still show off your look.
I have not worn a waist belt for years. In my teens, I was obsessed with them, and I wrapped one around me no matter what I was wearing. After years of wardrobe disasters, I thought I was done with the waist-cinching accessories, but then I walked past Sadie. She will now be featured on all dresses.
This change in weather calls for cosy clothes, and cosy does not in any way mean sloppy. This season casual is in, it’s all about respecting our bodies and letting them be free! Did anyone see The Row’s S/S 20 show yesterday? It’s all about that, but for the meantime, this is the very coolest way to buy into the trend.
The matching trousers are essential!
A complete no brainer. You’ll wear them every day this winter and will dig them out every year after that. Wear with slip dresses and chunky knits or simply with jeans and a tee.
I’m all about chilled looks with big accessories, and these beauties will dress up any outfit.
Never did I know I needed a knitted dress so much until I met this Rixo wonder. Annie is comfortable, chic, showstopping without being loud, and looks vintage so it feels more unique.
The leather skirt trend is back, and this time she’s longer, A-line and fabulous. Wear with a jumper or T-shirt semi tucked in, with wide-calf boots for that effortless “I just ooze fashion” look.
Was anyone else following fashion wueen Camille Charriere’s birthday celebrations? Well, if you did you would have seen the stunning glitter top she wore, and it made me think, glitter can be chic! Glitter with a white tee and jeans can be even more chic! Say hello to your instant outfit changer.
I added a classic trench coat to my Who What Wear UK shopping list couple of weeks ago (it’s a staple and that one was a bargain from Zara), but this one cannot be missed! JW Anderson has bought out the trench coat to end all trench coats. I’ve had my eye on it since the brand showed it at London Fashion Week back in February, so I am not letting it go.
Go-go boots are fun, sassy and surprisingly easy to walk in! Wear them with jeans, dresses or skirts. These are a weather-safe pair of heels that will cover you for years to come.
This Etsy seller is making some of the most beautiful headbands I’ve come across. I bought a few last year that I have worn to death, and I’m now thinking of adding a few more for A/W. This green velvet one (it’s 3-centimetres wide) is at the top of my list.
The ’70s trends aren’t going anywhere, and this beauty from Topshop is high-end looking with its utility style pockets and waist belt. I’ll roll up the trousers this week and wear this with a simple pair of Havaianas and brown square sunnies.
I saw this mini bag yesterday and fell in love. The Rejina Pyo Nane bag is back, and she’s had an autumn update in this new gorgeous check print. I’ll be heading back today to hold the bag and maybe take her home with me.
Chic, chic, chic! These trousers are super sleek and effortless—they are simply the dream! La Collection is a new Belgium-based brand that creates timeless beauties that will leave you feeling like an Olsen twin.
This is a classic wardrobe piece. It’s an item you can wear with any look. I would recommend going up a size to give it more of a luxe feel.
I originally saw this on Alice Zielasko and assumed it would be some sort of incredibly expensive designer item. However, when I found out it was UO, it took me all of 10 seconds to add it to my cart and checkout. I’ve worn it every day since.
Tie-dye is going to be huge. I want everything in tie-dye, and this is one piece I have already invested in. I cant wait to team it with leather or shearling coats in the winter.
To add to the look above, these sunnies will bring that ’70s cool-girl element.
Layers are key in the UK, and right now it’s a little soul destroying to pick up a coat, so throw this green gem around your shoulders. Wear it with jeans, skirts, on top of dresses—it’s something you’ll live in!
I’m wearing a lot of tangerine right now, but green is also one of this season’s “in” colours, especially if teamed with a bag or shoes in the same hue (yes, full-on Clueless style is big news). This Ghost slip is perfect for hot days teamed with simple slides or mules and then will work well in the autumn when layered with knitwear.
Tie-dye is huge this season, so maybe it’s time you tried it. This babe from Réalisation features the brand’s signature flattering cowl neck and bias cut. These dresses are the only things I can wear when the weather gets this insane. (FYI, Harrods has a Réalisation pop-up store at the moment! Run!)
Faithfull is a huge favourite of mine. Not only are the day dresses a dream for any occasion, but the clever ladies behind the brand are just a dream to work with. (And that’s a huge deal in this business!)
My favourite colour. I read somewhere yesterday that “Aperol Spritz” dressing is in, and it so is. Topshop have released out their sellout slip skirt in this orange hue, and it’s forecasted to be gone by the end of the day…
Another much-loved brand of mine, Daphine are back this season with a brand-new collection to match those beautiful Oli Rings I’ve been wearing on repeat. Say hello to the new Oli Hoops.
I love an anklet. I mean, I haven’t taken off this shell one for a year now. Instead, I’m just adding to it with my Alighieri (one of my favourite jewellery brands) one. So imagine my disbelief when I came across the all-new lace-up sandals from the cool gods of Alighieri, including jewellery! Yes, these shoes come with a piece of heaven. Grab a pair—they’re a 2-for-1 investment.
This is city chic at its finest. Wear with flat lace-up sandals (see above) and a one-shoulder body or an oversized shirt tucked in. Very cool.
A lunchtime no-brainer. White, cotton, floaty, milkmaid-style sleeves…
Posse is a brand some people may not know about. It’s Australian and has a huge selection of minimal linen pieces. Last year, I ordered a ton for my Ibiza trip and loved mixing and matching it all. Just watch out for that added import tax.
A suit is an empowering thing to own—it means business, looks put together and shows people you know what you’re doing!
This beautiful sage hue is also a big trend colour this season. Wear it casually with a white or cream vest and flat sandals.
I believe in investment pieces over everything, but I’m only human, and I too run into Zara at any chance I get in search of a high-street bargain. This blue off-the-shoulder dress is sure to have people fooled for a designer price find.
There’s no one denim style that really does everything, so you may need to invest in more than a single pair of jeans. I already have a pair from Re/Done (a baggier, ’90s style that I featured a while ago), but I have been swap between a loose-fit and a tighter-fit for the last two years now, and they have both treated me well! These are my ultimate favourite.
Every year I invest in one killer piece of knitwear. Last year it was my oversized beige Totem jumper, the year before my dark pink Isabel Marant cashmere beauty, both that which I still get so much wear out of now! This year it was a white cropped rib from The Range (a new brand I’m obsessing over). Something luxe like that makes me feel pulled together when I throw it on with my Dobbs track pants, for example, but I would also say that if you want a knockout piece of knitwear this season, you can’t go wrong with this Loewe one. I didn’t know I needed it so badly, until Lucy Williams casually strolled down to breakfast in it with a pair of loose linen trousers, on a trip to Ibiza we were on last month. So chic, so casual, so different.
“I am a huge fan of light silk midi dresses—on holiday I find they work extra hard. They’re great to throw on as a comfortable option, and you can make them look different from other shoes and accessories. Rixo is also a no-brainer for me. This brand has created the most sought-after dresses for the past year or two for weddings, dinners and even BBQs. These dresses are gorgeous and they make you feel incredible. So say hello to their latest print—this patchwork slip.”
“I usually wear Hunza swimsuits at the beach, as they are the most flattering swimwear I’ve found, but this bikini is already my new favourite. If you’re like me and already have a suitcase full of one-shoulder swimsuits, let me introduce you to this Matteau bikini. This colour is also my favourite of the season.”
Could be a shirt, could be a jacket—the shacket is still going strong. This will end up being one of those last-minute grabs every time you leave the house.
Off on holiday soon? Maybe a little stay-cation over a long weekend? Well, you need a travelling outfit—one that’s comfortable, chic, and can take you from day to night. This Theory set is in this season’s must-have cornflower blue and will be a look you wear over and over because let’s face it: Comfort is key.
You also might need the matching pants…
I love this brand, not only because Ms Daphine is an absolute babe, but also because her designs are super sleek and reasonably priced. They elevate all my über-minimal looks, making me feel a little more luxe instantly.
As much as I would love to just grab a basket bag every time, for some evening occasions, you need to spice it up. A few years ago, I invested in a bag by The Row—one of my favourite brands—and I’ve used it over and over again. This mini bag is the one to make a casual outfit look a little more delicate and is perfect for chicer nights on the town, weddings and glamorous parties. Also, the new white linen version is a dream!
The babes at Réalisation have just launched a bunch of new dresses that have me weak in the knees. The brand’s dresses make me feel insanely sexy thanks to their vintage prints and fits. Last year, when we had that amazing heat wave, I wore only its dresses, as the material is so lightweight.
I think you can definitely benefit from a killer co-ord each season—the kind that you can get out of the wardrobe for big occasions. This one is by a new favourite brand and is a total showstopper. What’s more is that it actually looks better worn casually with flats. I’ve just purchased it in black for my upcoming trip to Mallorca.
Who really are you if you don’t have a basket bag?! I mean, this season, they are the easiest yet chicest way to transport all your favourite things whilst still looking effortless in the local beer garden. This beauty is stocked on Wood/Grey, a company by an incredible woman from Cardiff—supporting my new Welsh roots!
You’ve seen through my Instagram that my newest everyday staple is that brown fringe jacket by Nili Lotan. Yes, fringe is back, and it’s the new summer jacket to be seen in. My beauty has a hefty price tag to go with the buttery suede (£2050!), so I’ve searched for other alternatives which are still staples but at slightly lighter prices. Enter this Ganni beauty. A leather wonder made by the coolest of cool people from Copenhagen. This is the one to wear with jeans and a tee, your slip dresses, milkmaid dresses…it goes with them all!
Jewellery is going colourful this season and in a big way. Multicoloured microbeads wrapped around your neck, wrists and ankles is a way of keeping that chic jeans-and-a-white-tee combination a little more exciting.
